Uso~! Arashi + Ghosts = …?

Yup, imagine my surprise when I was searching YouTube for ghostly videos, and I chanced upon a random video from a show called Uso!? Japan. Midway through, Jun-kun and Ohno suddenly popped onto the screen and I was like “Wtffff what’re you two doing here hunting ghosts?! D:<”

So I found out that back in 2001-2003, Arashi co-hosted a variety show called Uso!? Japan with Hideaki Takizawa (of Takki and Tsubasa), Kokubun Taichi (of TOKIO) and Ogura Hiroko. It’s a weekly show about the supernatural and ghost sightings submitted by people and listed in its Top Unconfirmed Sightings. (Although they have segments of odd experiments like those in Shukudai-kun). A couple of my poor Arashi boys would be sent out to investigate the scariest No.1 sighting!

Well, this’ll be something new compared to the food-tasting and rabu rabu. xD

I’ve put up two parts (of the 5 parts) of an episode which features Jun-kun and Ohno as the investigators, and I advise you NOT TO WATCH THIS ALONE OR AT NIGHT because it’ll scare the living life out of you (blame the bloody sound effects >_>). The subtitles are in Chinese, so I’ll provide the rough translation below each video.

The Well, Part 1

There’s this abandoned well in the middle of the forest, where in a month 10 bodies were found in the well, all of them killed themselves by jumping into the well. So Jun and Ohno calls a person who has first hand experience of a ghostly encounter at the well (00:52). The person and his friends went to the well at midnight, and they threw 10 stones into the well to represent the 10 people who died. After throwing the 10th stone, he saw a woman’s reflection in the water, and suddenly felt hands pulling him into the well. His friends managed to save him.

So Jun and Ohno set out alone to look for the well (it’s rather idiotic, to be honest :3). They take 20 minutes to search for it because it’s very dark and there isn’t even moonlight. Finally they find the well, which has a lid covered over the opening because the well isn’t used anymore. Also, Jun finds piles of rocks purposely stacked together around the well. The plan is that Jun will throw 10 rocks into the well to test out the person’s story.

(06:04) Jun asks Ohno if they should open the well, but Ohno replies that it isn’t ‘proper’. But yet, if they don’t open it then they can’t proceed to the plan. So Jun pushes the lid open, but he can’t see anything in the well aside from the reflection of his torchlight. He then throws a rock into the well to find out the depth of the water, and discovers that the water is quite deep inside. That way, if they throw the 10 rocks inside, they can’t see the ghost’s face. Jun proposes to climb into the well, and they call some of the crew members to set up the equipment.

The Well, Part 5

Jun is now sent down into the well, but something unexpected happens to Jun?

Jun starts to climb down the well, which has the depth of 10m to the water surface. Ohno stays by the well opening to watch over Jun. Jun says that it’s getting scary inside, just as he reaches above the water surface. From the well opening, it’s impossible to even see Jun because he’s too deep inside. Inside, Jun tells Ohno that he can see his reflection perfectly, and so he starts to throw the first rock in. However…

(03:34) Jun throws into the water the 3rd rock, but he’s starting to get weird. He asks Ohno if there’s any breeze, to which Ohno answers no. But oddly, Jun says it’s getting really cold inside the well and he feels wind blowing, and it’s impossible for any breeze to reach Jun’s position. Also, he says that he feels ’something’, and it’s getting really creepy now. He has his eyes closed as he tells Ohno that he can sense someone watching him from behind. Ohno and the crew member decide it’s best that Jun climbs out of the well immediately.

(05:57) The crew member tells Jun to climb out NOW. At this things get chaotic, and Jun keeps muttering “Kowai, kowai kowai!” (scary) and “Tasukete” (help). Everyone manage to pull Jun out, and Ohno asks if he’s okay. Jun tells him that his leg feels numb. Nobody knows what happened to Jun’s leg or what happened down in the well. But there’s definitely ’something’ in there. At which at this part they show the edge of the well and a hand pops out, looooool how unoriginal.

This is definitely bone-chilling. I was mostly scared for Jun-kun and his bravery and idiocy, that I was gripping onto my chair (and my brother) in fear. Baka Jun, don’t ever scare me like that T_T

I like how at the end they always come up with a funny picture – it sorta help lift the tension from the eerie ghost search. In this part they show a picture of a guy with the face of a horse. How random and totally awesome is that? xD
